Extract from ‘The Goldilocks Man’

‘It was unlikely that the Director has called him in just to talk about his feet. Still, the man was getting more unpredictable. He would be talking to them in the conference room, as always, and his voice would suddenly rise in volume without breaking off. He would then turn on one of them, and lock eyes with the unfortunate as if to extract a solution for the situation from the depths of his soul.

In the old days they had alcohol at least. ‘
